Join us for a gallery talk as we explore the Monadnock Center’s two special exhibits on quilts and samplers! We will begin by looking at the 22 quilts on display in Pieced and Patterned: Connie Bastille’s Quilt Collection. The quilts, coverlets, and quilt tops on exhibit offer an overview of 150 years of American quilting. We will discuss quilting history as well as the development of fabrics and dyes. In the Schoolgirl Samplers exhibit, we will examine the ways these decorative objects are records of women’s educational opportunities and what they tell us about the lives of girls and women when they were stitched at the turn of the 19th century.
Gallery talks are free with museum admission ($3/ free for members and children under 12).
